Damn, that Spriggan's death was brutal. Patausche also went through more shit and despair as she dealt with her uncle. Crazy.

Patausche is sentenced to be a hero this episode but that was dark, really dark. She did set her mind on her goals so that sets up for more storytelling about her character. What a season this has been though. This season finale wasn't about Xylo but building up story for Patausche. She's been one of the more important characters so I look forward to seeing her role.

Nothing beats a good head pat after a long day of fighting. It’s really nice to see how Xylo changed, from the cynical and emotionless person in episode 1 to someone much more expressive and actually smiling in the finale. That’s solid growth over these twelve episodes. Compared to some of the others, he’s honestly one of the more normal ones. I mean... that new Demon Blight we saw says enough.

Then there’s Kivia’s uncle, who’s just insane. This moment clearly hit Kivia hard, seeing her go from being embarrassed over a cute outfit in the previous episode to breaking down like that was rough. Still, after killing a comrade like that, it’s hard to feel any sympathy. And just like that, the Kivia who had started to soften a bit thanks to Xylo is gone, back to how she was in episode one, cold and strict. But honestly, that’s just how you survive in a world like this.

She knows what it feels like to be Xylo now, misunderstood, never given the chance to be heard. It’s the cruel reality of this corrupt world, a world so broken it created something like the “Penal Hero” system. Even so, Kivia is set on it. She’s already made up her mind to become one, which just shows how far she’s fallen. At this point, something that twisted feels completely normal to her.

Honestly, I wasn't really rocking with this show all that much post episode one, but holy shit did things take a turn for the better in this finale. I'm more than excited for the next season now, amazing shit.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, THATS HOW YOU END OFF ON A CLIFFHANGER AND SET UP SEASON 2. So much to unpack here, amazing finale, if you thought the penultimate episode last week was Studio Kai’s last hoorah you couldn’t have been more wrong because this was arguably the best episode of the entire series thus far.

First off, obligatory Teoritta praise farming. Adorable how much easier it’s become for Xylo to tell her she did a good job and give her headpats, they’re so freaking cute. Notice how Xylo himself kinda admits that he wants to be praised too. The goddesses are goddesses so they can be a little shameless about it, but I think everyone enjoys being told they’ve done well. It’s a natural human thing and Xylo is no exception, especially considering all the flak he’s got as a penal hero.

Spriggan really tried it lmao, the animation in that alley fight scene was amazing. I’m kinda surprised he went out so sad like that considering how they hyped him up. I KNEW Rhyno was sus, but I didn’t think it was a “I’m secretly a fucking demon lord” sort of way, I thought he was just in cahoots with the coexisters. Such a wild reveal, also seeing Spriggan cower in fear after he killed those kids last week was very satisfying. I wanna learn more about Puck Puka as well.

BRO WHAT IS THIS ANIMATION for the Kivia x Marlen reveal?? I knew it was going to be special when Kivia exposed him and they held the shot of the camera on the chair as opposed to Marlen’s face, letting the tension build up. One of the best sequences I’ve ever seen. Oh my God, that character acting from both Kivia and her uncle is incredible, storyboarding, lighting, it’s sublime. Perfectly conveyed every emotion going through both characters.

RIP the 2nd capital. Those people likely died horrible deaths. Now I’m a little confused on the next part. Kivia is a well established knight who surely wouldn’t have gone off and just killed her uncle for no reason. Were the knight order/higher ups just afraid to have their authority called into question if people think people in their ranks are working with the demon blight? Or was this the coexisters themselves trying to cover their tracks and make sure Kivia disappeared? I just don’t see why she wouldn’t have got a legitimate trial given all she’d done? I guess that’s kind of redundant given what they did to Xylo earlier.

THEY DID IT, THEY SAID THE THING IN THE THING! That’s how you end off a season on a cliffhanger. The full circle moment/irony of Kivia who once looked down on penal heroes and prejudged them, now in the same position Xylo was when they first met. Poetic. I have some questions though. 1: how long was she in that prison? 2: why did no one come for her prior to this? 3:just who is the 12th order commander really? I think there’s a lot more to his story and I can’t wait to find out! 4: Let’s not gloss over the fact he mentioned they used to summon heroes from another world prior to the penal hero system, would be cool if some of those people are still around.

Season 2 is a foregone conclusion so I can’t wait for the official announcement this weekend. I’ll have to catch up on the books before as well. And if I said this is better than Mushoku Tensei? Lol.

It has good production... and it's probably the only good thing about this anime.

Ngl, found the ending kinda unsatisfying. Not only did Rajit die protecting Kivia, Kivia gets sentenced to be a hero cuz of how deep the corruption in the goverment, church and military goes. Even learning about how penal heroes are created didn't feel good.

Only good thing to come out of this episode is the reveal of Rhyno being a Demon Blight that took over the body of a penal hero and kills his own, which is a crazy ally to have ngl. Here's hoping for a Season 2 which can hopedully bring the overall story to a more satisfying conlusion.

It is exactly as I feared. Kivia ending up a hero. The signs were there from the begining. But holy that confrontation, entire sequence was crazy. Props to the studio. One of the more unique and better fantasy anime in recent times.

That was such an awesome episode. Kivia learned what it means to be idealistic and righteous, even when it's for the greater good, in this world. I love/hate that she now understands the heroes, particularly Xylo.

Rhyno... glad his "obsession" serve humanity at the very least Kivia lost many things and lost those who are close to her but she still have her determination, she will fight the demon blight, fight as penal hero! Overall writing wise, the characters interactions, the interesting lore and the conspiracies are so good but more importantly, good job Teoritta!

Love the direction during Kivia's confrontation with her uncle, with the color palette reflecting her world during that moment, and the light that slowly comes into her prison cell when she took the leap for the (actual greater?) good of the world, even if it means becoming a penal hero herself.

A great ending, even though I knew there were spoilers, but for me, spoilers don't ruin good things, they enhance them. And so it is here. Ultimately, I feel very sorry for Kiviu, who, in the face of ordinary idiots, ended up becoming an enemy of humanity by killing an innocent. I have a feeling her squad won't really believe this crap.

I felt that Spriggan was underused, meh... All that hype just to be defeated by Xylo and killed by Rhyno, who is a Demon Blight who kills his own kind (Tbf, this is all good). Kivia sentenced to be a hero

it was soo good the scene where kivia kills her uncle with no sound it was great it portrayed her feelings really well it was really nice season 8.9/10

Kickass finale, honestly Kivia makes a better main character than Xylo. Sentenced to Be a Hero comes out swinging. The grand premiere with all its large-scale battles and cinematic shots looks amazing. Neutral rating 6/10.

I think I understand why there is stigma against heroes. The first heroes were summoned from other worlds...and because of that, there was culture shock ( a big take that at those anime where some random guy comes from another world and somehow manages to avoid the issues with culture shock... I think that the anime Gate sort of handled the culture shock well, but most don't.). Then they started using dead people. Now essentially we got zombies fighting for us.More stigma.

The human side is basically, WTF. On the one hand you got the coexisters , on the other you got the people fighting the blight, and both sides are equal corrupt. You got the guy from the twelfth order who is the secret police, and who appears to have his own agenda. Investigation skills in this world are basically rubbish. Poor Kivia.

Not bad ending at all. Would defo watch a second season.

This show has had its ups and downs for me, but that was a great episode to conclude the first season. Best I would say easily of the season so at least it is departing on a good note. The scenes with Patausche and her uncle were really intense and well-drawn to convey that fact, right till her uncle's death.

Quite a sobering ending it does have to be said. Spriggans death also was a great scene.

Rhyno’s reveal as a Demon Blight who kills his own kind was cool, and wow the scene where Kivia kills her uncle was amazing. Standout scene of the episode for me. As expected, her punishment is being sentenced to be a hero, and what an awful cliffhanger to leave us with.

Wow, what an episode! The guy from the Church, who condemned Kivia but turned her into a hero in the end, gives me a really bad feeling. Kivia's uncle surprised me with how psychopathic he was in the end. Having one of the heroes be a demon king was completely unexpected.

Such a good anime man... More people should watch it. 9/10 Desperately waiting for s2 announcement

2 MASSIVE twists, but they weren't reaches. It was actually stuff I had assumed would happen, but that's not so say it still HIT LIKE A TRUCK.

The dark, tense drama of this episode really deepens the weight and complexity of the story. Fitting the heroic theme in the title, this was truly an Epic tale!

Ain't no way they took shots at "isekai". They said it don't work and we'll use people from our own world. At least that explains Tatsuya. Jokes aside, holy hell- I can only be so far on the edge of my seat. Choosing to become a hero has continuity with her character and resolve.

It's morbidly hilarious how the universal law that goddesses must receive headpats applies no matter how grim the occasion. Both Kivia's sentencing and the "crime" that led to it were still so raw though.

Spriggan's such a fucking fraud lol. One snipe from Tsav and kick from Xylo and they were finished, pathetic. They got a brutal death by Rhyno as well. So Rhyno is a fucking demon lord that kills other demon lords wtf. Puck Puca is his name.

holy fuck. this is the best anime of the season hands down !! this scene gave me straight up chills. poor Patausche man. she didn't have to go through all that😭 and rip my guy Rajit. that shit was absolute brutal.

Man… that was brutal, the office scene was crazy. I really liked this series, the ambience was very on point the whole season, never a dull moment.

I started this show thinking that Kivia was muscles for brains and a mediocre character. Now I've totally flipped that opinion, she's carrying this show on her own shoulders.

and I have to add, to end your own life to take the road of hero is darn sad, the despair and courage to do so should be enormous

People calling the story basic and shallow aren't clever - they're... basic and shallow. Honestly anyone saying the only good thing about this anime is the production value probably zoned out while watching or is lacking in media literacy. 8.4/10
