I have to say I admired the skill in making it, the willingness of the actors to hold nothing back, and the points it makes about how one can confuse charisma with good intentions, and about conformity and complicity. Despite so much being over the top it has a great deal of subtlety. It’s well-thought out. But I don’t ever want to see it again.

I've seen 14 of his movies, and Cold Fish is definitely top 3. The other 2 in my top 3 are Himizu and Noriko's Dinner Table. No particular order.

Yeah I also have been watching his works since last few weeks and must say his each every work appeared before me as too rich for digestion for an ordinary brain just as mine. Sion Sono movies I watched till now are: Love Exposure, Guilty of Romance, The Forest of Love, Cold Fish. Cold Fish impressed me the most.

Sono said that he wanted to portray utter and absolute helplessness in the film. He succeeded and then to an umpteenth degree. Although I felt like he didn't have to go about it in the way that he did.

Glorified porn. Typical male gaze bullshit blurring the line between sexual violence and primal urges. Japanese rape porn inspired bullshit. Cinephile dipshits trying to ascribe depth and meaning to this perverted bullshit is both depressing and amusing. THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES. Just be honest.
視覚的な圧倒感はあるけれど、究極的には空っぽだと思う。正直ストーリーは忘れてしまったけれど、いくつかのグロテスクなシーンだけは覚えている。「芸術」だとか「人間性の深い探求」だと思い込んで喜ぶ人もいるかもしれないけれど、私の好みではないな。でも、彼の作品をいくつか見たこと自体は良かったと思っているよ。

Lol this brings back so many memories. How can I describe it? Hmm visually overwhelming (maxxing) but pretty empty ultimately. I forgot the story tbh but remember a few graphic scenes. Some people might love it thinking that's "art" and some deep exploration into human nature? Not my thing but I'm happy that I've watched it and a few other works in his oeuvre.

今日仕事中に、この映画がいかに衝撃的だったかを考えていたんだ。半年以上前に見たのに、いまだに考えてしまう。それだけ楽しめた（印象に残った）ということだろうね。もし普通じゃない映画が好きなら、高校教師が原爆を作る『太陽を盗んだ男』を強くおすすめするよ。正確すぎて検閲されたシーンがあるらしいけど、チェックする価値はある。

Funny, i was thinking about this movie on my work today about how disturbing it actually was. But I really enjoyed it since im still thinking about it altough I saw it more than six months ago. If you like not so ordinary movies I highly recommend The man who stole the sun, about a high school teacher who builds an atomb bomb.
